Happy Birthday to you!!!
I can't believe it's been a year! The girls had their first birthday this past weekend. It was a small affair with mostly family. They loved the bright paper and curly ribbons. They made quite a haul. The living room is still stacked with presents we haven't found a place for yet. We'll need a new addition to the house after after Christmas! They didn't know what to think about the cake. Kristyn grabbed a fistful of icing and promptly smeared it across her face. Mom had to quickly wipe it away from her eyes and out of her nose. Kayley was more reserved, but gave the dog a healthy serving of cake and icing. Pictures are posted below.
The girls are doing well. Kristyn is about 14 1/2 - 15 lbs. Still small, but slowly catching up. She still gets physical therapy once a week. She is sitting up and rolling all around the room now. I don't know if she will crawl. Our goals for therapy in the next six months are to have her standing, cruising and walking. The therapist thinks she should definitely be able to walk by 18 months. A little later than the norm, but she will definitely get there. She has had some neurological testing done in the past few months for episodes that are either seizures or movement disorders (dystonias). Thankfully, all of her tests have come back normal and she hasn't had an episode in almost two months now, so we hope whatever they were have stopped. Her reflux is still a problem, but the GI doctor is confident she should outgrow that hopefully within the next six months or so. So between now and April, we're hoping for lots of progress. She's a very happy baby who waves "hi" and is starting to blow kisses.
Kayley is finally crawling and trying to pull up to stand. She waves and says "hi" and carries on whole conversations in her own language. She is getting so big now. I can't believe I almost have a toddler on my hands. Teething has been very rough on her. She doesn't have the tolerance for discomfort that her sister has developed. She has three teeth now, with more just around the corner.
We're going to Saundra's parents for Thanksgiving. It will be the second Thanksgiving for the girls, but the first one for Kristyn at home with us. We spent last year's with her in the NICU.
Will post more later!
